The Eyes are the Groin of the Head

I am a huge fan of The Office. It is, hands down, the smartest show on television. After my beloved Seinfeld went off the air, I was in a sitcom drought. The Office has changed all of that.

The show is based on the British series of the same name. In a nutshell, an unseen documentary team tracks the daily interactions of the employees at a paper supply company, Dunder Mifflin, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Each episode is filled with humor, awkwardness, pain, completely ridiculous behavior and even vulgarity.

Steve Carrell does an amazing job as Michael Scott, the needy, politically incorrect Regional Manager. His inability to lead and general cluelessness about people and their feelings make for some amazing television. To quote Michael, "Would I rather be feared or loved? Um... Easy, I want people to be afraid of how much they love me."

Like their boss, the rest of the ensemble is brilliantly cast. The socially repellent Assistant to the Regional Manger, Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) is the quintessential office suck-up. Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) is the unassuming Receptionist and love interest of Jim Halpert (John Krasinski), the boyishly goofy Sales Representative. The cast is rounded out with the likes of Meredith Palmer (Kate Flannery) the alcoholic in charge of Supplier Relations/Purchasing, Angela Martin (Angela Kinsey) the uptight and hyper-conservative Head Accountant, Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton) the off-beat Quality Assurance Representative, and Ryan Howard (BJ Novak) the Temporary worker turned VP of Regional Sales, among others.

If Dunder Mifflin were a real company, I would apply to work in their Scranton branch. Who wouldn't want to work in a place where idiotic schemes thrive, feelings are needlessly hurt, and genuinely good ideas are shot down by the boss because he failed to think of them first. The Office is comedy at its finest.

I do work there. Everyone has been so busy treated me like I'm invisible that they don't realize they're still paying me. I'm needlessly hurt by it, but still gleeful when I get to make a bank run! I do still miss Seinfeld. We lost the Fonz, then Cheers, and then Seinfeld ... Hold on to your scranton as long as you can. Can I say that on here? :)
