The Waterer

Our dog, Brick, is always extremely thirsty. He laps up water like a man who has been lost in the desert for a weeks. One night he actually drank water for over 5 minutes straight. Seriously. I timed him.

As a result, I purchased a dog waterer... basically a self-dispensing water cooler for dogs. It was wonderful. I could fill the thing up once a week and let the beast drink himself silly. That is until the waterer decided that it needed to dump the remaining water from the tank every time the water level got low. I quickly grew tired of mopping up the mess on the kitchen floor.

I finally decided to buy a new waterer. After much debating, I came home with a Le Bistro Pet Waterer, the Cadillac of dog waterers. It is bigger than our previous model and is less noisy. The old model used to glug and blurb constantly. The Le Bistro is virtually silent with the exception of the once a day muted blurb. I love it.

I wish I could say the same thing for Brick. He hates the new waterer. He barks at it. He lays on the floor next to it for hours at a time just eying it suspiciously. The only way that he will drink from it is if I beg and plead with him to walk over and take a sip. I usually have to dip my fingertips in the water so that he can see that it's safe.

It has been one week since the new waterer entered his life and the beast has only consumed one day's worth of water. It's the end of July in Tennessee. Surely Brick is craving a nice cool drink. How long can he possibly hold out before dehydration sets in? Only time will tell.

My dog is a mess.
