Hand and Nose Prints

The house is quiet.  The hubby has already left for work and my boy is still fast asleep in his bed.  The only noise is the sound of Brick's breathing as he lays stretched out on the rug in the den.

I make my way to my hubby's favorite chair which is nestled in the corner next to the big glass doors that open into the back yard. I sip coffee and savor the silence.

Outside the morning sun is shining through the branches of the giant maple trees; the leaves seem to dance in the gentle breeze.  Songbirds flit from branch to branch and wild rabbits hop around the yard in search of breakfast.

Then I see it.  Hand prints from a grubby boy and smudges from a beastly dog nose cover the glass.  At first I am annoyed.  Thoughts of, "Didn't I just clean this yesterday?" fill my head.

I notice how high the prints are located on the doors.  Wasn't it just yesterday that I was wiping away smudges that were no higher than my knees?  It's another reminder of how quickly my boy is growing.

I take another look at my not-so-clean doors and smile.  One day, my boy will move out and our dear Brick will be gone and I will long for the days when the glass was covered in hand and nose prints.

Who needs clean windows and doors anyway?

So true, how those little imperfections make us stop and realize life is moving too fast.

What is that saying... something, something, something, "dust go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep"? That.

This made me tear up a little. Who knew smudges could have such an affect on me? (Don't worry, it was your words, not the smudges that had that affect!)
It is shocking to me how quickly my kids are growing. I mean, my BABY is about to turn two! I simply can not believe it. Trying to breathe in every moment.
Looking forward to this weekend!
