Gingerbread House

I bought a gingerbread house kit at Costco last November with every intention of building it with my son. Two bouts of strep throat later, Christmas had passed and the kit was still unused. I tucked it into the back of my pantry and promptly forgot all about it.

Earlier this week, my son and I were trying to decide what we should do... bake some Christmas cookies... play with his Star Wars figures... Suddenly, I remembered my purchase. We decided to have a go of it.

The kit was great! It came with pre-made gingerbread pieces for the house and several cute trees and snowmen. The windows, doors and scalloped shingles on the roof were already marked. All we had to do was trace them with the icing. It also came with a pouch of ready-to-use icing and all of the candy that you see. The lid from the kit even turned into a base for our house. Talk about easy!

After I assembled the house, I became the lowly icing lady. My son would tell me to "put icing here" or "stick icing there." He did everything else. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the finished product.
