I always have a huge bowl of fresh fruit on my kitchen table. I keep it stocked with a variety of fruit so that anytime a hunger pang might strike, a healthy snack is close at hand.
While all this fruit is a wonderful, I have considered filling the bowl with fruit leather instead. Why, you might ask? Fruit flies.
The grocery stores around here are swarming with the little pests. Try as I might, I can't manage to bring home fruit without a few fruit flies stowing away in the bag. It's like they have organized a plot to invade my home.

To finish my trap, I place the funnel into the opening at the top of the jar. If there are any gaps, use a little scotch tape to hold it in place and seal the edge.
Place the jar somewhere near the fruit fly playground, a.k.a. the fruit. The pests will fly down into the jar through the opening in the funnel and get trapped. Eventually they will tire and drown in the vinegar below.
I've already managed to capture 3 of the little guys.

I love it! I was trying to remember what to put in my "trap", I've read this before with a slight twist - putting saran wrap with tiny holes over the vinegar. I'm going to try both tonight. I hate fruit flies!!
Have a great week,
Steph
