The Ant Farm... Part 3

I realized it has been a while since I've posted an update about the boy's ant farm. I'm sure you have been anxiously waiting to hear more about our creepy crawly house guests.

Well, if you must know, the ants have been incredibly lazy. After some careful examination it looks like they might have finished a few short tunnels.

The rest of their time has been spent on two endeavors. One, hanging around at the bottom of the habitat; and two, rearranging the piles of pellets that they were deposited at the surface during the excavation. In short, they sleep or work on the ant hill.

Thrilling, isn't it?

Last night, when the boy was heading to bed, we noticed an unusual flurry of activity in the ant farm. It appeared that the ants were running laps through the tunnel that had been forged around the bottom of their home. We watched them zip around in circles for at least ten minutes. It was quite funny to watch.

"What in the world are they doing?" the boy asked. My answer... They were obviously running a 10k. Even ants need to stay in shape. Why else would they keep running around?

The boy promptly told me that my idea was ridiculous. That ants don't know even know what a 10k is. Silly me.

At any rate, the sprinting was short lived. The ants are now back to milling around down below. My next update promises to be action packed.
