The Glasses

© shoutingforha

The boy has been wearing his new glasses for the past week. Doesn't he look cute?

The hubby and I have had fun listening to him exclaim how well he can see. It's funny how bad eyesight creeps in just a little at a time, going unnoticed until the headaches and squinting get to be unbearable. The boy is literally seeing things with new eyes.

There were only a few isolated moments when the boy worried that he would become the target of some teasing. He insisted that I help him practice a witty comeback in case the need arise. Our exchange went something like this...

Me: "You are a four-eyed-freckle-faced-carrot-top!"

The boy (trying not to giggle):
"My glasses help me see so I don't care what you think!"
Thankfully, most of the kids in the boy's class have been very encouraging about his appearance. Only one little girl decided to christen him "four eyes." His reply was, "Do you even know what that means?" Surprisingly she didn't, so my boy took the time to educate her on the matter.

In my opinion the boy looks adorable. Every time I see him wearing his glasses, I have to resist the urge to smother him with dozens of hugs and kisses. It's a miracle I haven't gobbled him up.

He does look adorable! And kudos to you for helping him prepare a comeback that wasn't rude or demeaning.

I love the glasses! Your son sounds like a smart, confident kiddo.

Our son's vision corrected enough that he got to stop wearing his glasses recently (had been wearing them since age 4) and it took me awhile to get used to seeing him WITHOUT glasses. It was so strange.

The only time he was teased about his glasses was when a kid called him "glasses face" which was quite unclever, and my son knew it.
