As Heard One Afternoon, vol. 1

© shoutingforha

As I was driving home with my boy after a dentist appointment last week, he was complaining that the sun was shining in his eyes.  By the way that he was carrying on, you would have thought that someone was actually gouging the eyes right out of his head.

In an effort to calm him down, I explained to him that I understood exactly how he felt.  As long as I can remember, driving in the fall between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 has been quite difficult.  The sun is situated too low in the sky for the visors in the car to be of any use, and it is so bright that no sunglasses can sufficiently shield my eyes from the blinding rays.

I gently reminded him that he was going to continue growing and that, within another year or two, his problem will be solved.

Our conversation as it continued is below...

Me: You're lucky that you are going to keep growing.  When I'm eighty-five, the sun will still be blinding me as I drive.
The boy:  Eighty-five?!  You're not going to be driving when you're eighty-five.
Me:  What do you mean?
The boy:  By that point you will have lost your mind.  I'll have to take your car keys away from you.

It's reassuring to know that he will be looking out for me in my old age.

Thanks for the giggle :) What a relief that the boy is looking out for you. He certainly has a unique view on old people.

Ha ha ha! I actually cackled when I read what your son is going to do when you are eighty-five.

Kids are so funny.
