A Handful of Crumbs

1.  I am happy to report that my boy's arm is feeling much better.  The wound is still quite nasty, but I am trilled to report that it is healing much more quickly than I expected.  It must be a result of our constant soaking, scrubbing and re-bandaging.

2.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to find chewing gum that is made with real sugar?  Neither did I.  To date, the only brand I've found that contains 100% pure sugar is Glee Gum.  My only problem is locating a local store that carries the stuff.

I try to avoid products that contain aspartame, a.k.a NutraSweet due to the ever growing list of horrible side effects linked to it's consumption. I feel especially compelled to protect my gum-loving boy.

If you know of any other brands, please let me know.

3.  My dog has developed a bad habit of waking me up at around 2:30 a.m. to go outside.  He stands inside our bedroom door and wines to get the hubby's or my attention.  If we try to ignore him, Brick will walk over to my side of the bed and nudge my arm or whimper in my ear.  It is really wreaking havoc with my sleep.

The hubby and I are both night owls and, as a result, Brick is free to roam the backyard as much as he wants until we head off to bed, usually around midnight. The dog will frequently stay inside for eight, ten or sometimes even twelve hours during the day (have I mentioned that he is the laziest creature on earth?).  Why he can't stay inside for six or seven hours at night is a complete mystery to me.

If he wasn't so gosh-darn cute...

4.  I am currently reading March by Geraldine Brooks and am loving it.  What about you, dear readers?  Have you read anything wonderful lately?

5.  I somehow managed to miss the fact that my boy' school changed it's mascot from the Eagles to the Rainbow Warriors.  Yes, you heard me correctly.  The Rainbow Warriors.

I have no clue when the change took place.  I only found out about the switch last week when I was volunteering up at the school.  I had to take something to one of the P.E. teachers and noticed the name had been painted onto the middle of the new gym floor.

I'm not sure whose brilliant idea that was, but from what I've heard, all of the boys (which make up almost 60% of the school's population) think it stinks.  I have to agree.

5.  Speaking of school stuff... Next week, the fourth grade will be going on their first field trip of the year.  This is usually a cause for great excitement here at the Ha house.  This time, however, the boy is rather unhappy at the thought.

Why?  Because the students are required to wear their class t-shirt, which in this case happens to be lavender.  I think you can understand the boy's frustration.

I'm not sure who selected the colors for this year's class shirts, but there seems to be a departure from the usual bold reds, blues, yellows, oranges and greens.  The powers that be have apparently decided that a nice assortment of pastels would be better.  The person responsible clearly doesn't have a son.

It looks as though I will be going on the field trip as well.  I am one of a small group of parents who have undergone the new county-mandated criminal background check and fingerprinting.  Mansker's Station here I come.
