Target Practice

Like most boys his age, my son has a fascination with weapons of all kinds.  He can describe in painful detail all the attributes of almost any gun imaginable.  Over the years he has amassed an impressive collection of pocket knives, a sling shot and an assortment of Nerf, BB and pellet guns.

The one thing he had never done was shoot a real gun...  That is until last Saturday.

As part of his 11th birthday celebration, the hubby and I decided to take the boy out for a little target practice.  The child was ecstatic.

We drove to a shooting range way out in the countryside of Tennessee. We stapled some paper targets onto the boards that were located about 50 feet away, dawned our ear and eye protection and went over all of the gun safety rules.

The majority of the boy's time was spent shooting a little 22 revolver.  It was the perfect weapon to start with...  It's small, easy to load and had almost no kick.  The other added benefit is that the ammunition is inexpensive, relatively speaking.

Once the boy was comfortable with the 22, we let the boy try his hand at the 9mm Glock.  The hubby was careful to hold onto the boy as the Glock provides quite a kick.  I think it is safe to say that it was the highlight of the entire experience.

The boy had so much fun that he is already asking when he can visit the shooting range again.
