Rain Boots

© shoutingforha

I've gone and done it. I've purchased a pair of rain boots. After 13 years of living in the South, I finally caved in. Thankfully, my favorite store, Target, had a cute and affordable pair in my size.

I'm sure my friends and family back home in Colorado will think I've lost my mind. They will probably wonder why I'm choosing to wear children's shoes. Here's my logic...

We get a lot of rain. And when I say rain, I don't mean drizzle or even shower. Here in Nashville, we get something I prefer to call "hurricane rain." You know, the kind of rain that reminds you of watching some crazy person on the Weather Channel broadcast live as the hurricane of the century comes ashore. Until I moved here, I had never seen anything like it. The crazy thing is that this type of rain can sometimes last for several days without relenting. There have been times that I have seriously considered buying a canoe, just to be safe.

Anyone who knows me will admit that I am "vertically challenged." At an amazing 5 foot 1 3/4 inches (yes, that measly three quarters of an inch is important), I find it difficult to find pants that don't drag the ground when I walk. Suffice to say, I spend at least 50% of the year walking around with the bottom 6-12 inches of my pants soaking wet.

As I was strolling through Target today, I found the answer to all my woes. The weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow is a 90% chance of rain and severe thunderstorms. It looks like I will get to try out my new boots sooner than expected.
