Drummer Boy

My son has always had a love of drumming. From the time he could walk, the little guy would steal my pots, pans, bowls and buckets and arrange them in a semicircle. Clutching two wooden spoons tightly in his hands, he would bang out a beat. It was adorable.

When he was two, an acquaintance gave us a miniature kit that had been taking up space in his attic. It was essentially a toy, but it did the job. Dawning a pair of gun muffs to protect his ears, my boy would beat on his drums for hours.

Fast forward to last fall... My son started taking drum lessons from a friend. I have to admit that I was surprised by how quickly he was picking things up. As his skills grew, it became apparent that his ability was being severely limited by his gear. The boy needed a real drum kit.

Enter our dear friend A. who is a drummer here in Nashville. With his help we were able to pick out a great kit just in time for our boy's seventh birthday. A. was even able to score us some free cymbals too. I am a big fan of free stuff!

Behold... the Gretsch Catalina Club Kit in White Marine Nitron.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should start saving my money for a pair of hearing aids!
