My sweet boy had a rough time at school today.
During recess, my son discovered a two foot long metal stake that was inadvertently left behind by the company that provided the inflatables for the carnival last weekend (see the previous post). When he picked up the stake, trying to move it so no one would get hurt, he accidentally bonked his friend in the forehead. The recipient of the bump was a sweet little girl that we met in class last year.
At first, it appeared that the little girl had escaped with a minor scrape. A trickle of blood alerted my boy to the fact that the injury was much worse. He immediately ran to get the teachers. Her Mom was called and she was taken to the emergency room for seven stitches. Seven.
I have to take a minute and say a nice word about my son's teacher. During all the insanity, she was calm and carefully listened to my boy's explanation about what happened. She then reassured him that it was "just an accident" and that everything would be ok. She also took the time to call me and let me know about what had transpired.
After I heard the news, I called the little girl's Mom. I have to admit that I was a little nervous... Would she be upset? Her sweet girl was hurt. Some of the parents in our area are a little intense and have been known to file lawsuits over lesser crimes.
Thankfully, the Mom immediately put my mind at ease. Her exact words (with names omitted) were, "As soon as my daughter told me that it was your son that bumped her, I knew it had to be an accident. I know what kind of boy he is."
My heart swelled with pride. She knows my boy. She knows that he is a good kid and that he would never deliberately hurt her daughter. Maybe the hubby and I are doing something right.

He did exactly what he'd been taught to do: fix a problem, get help as needed (am sure he felt bad too)and tell the truth.
What else can ya ask for?
Of course you're doing "something right" - never question that!
