The first friend I made here in Tennessee is moving. We met in a Newlywed's Sunday School Class after the hubby and I moved to Nashville over 14 years ago.
After talking, we realized that we were practically neighbors. Thus began our friendship. Fortunately, our hubbies got along just as well as we did. We spent countless hours hanging out together, enjoying good food and even better conversation. We became family.
Our friendship has stood the test of time. We have experienced a lot over the years... buying our first homes, the death of her father and my father-in-law, job changes, her hubby's time in seminary and my hubby's in grad school, the births of her three beautiful daughters and my son... It has been a rich life together.
Her hubby accepted a job in Newnan, Georgia (just outside of Atlanta) on Tuesday. Thankfully, it is a mere five hour drive from my house. Yes, it's farther than I would like, but definitely not so far that I can't easily be convinced to make a weekend trip. Maybe I should make sure their new house comes with a designated guest room just for me.
I have known that this day was coming for several years. I have been waiting, preparing myself so to speak. If all goes according to plan, they will be moving into their new home and starting their new life within the next month. It is bittersweet.
I will miss my friend.

Oh no! Who's moving? Sad. But, you still have us...small consolation I know.
Whether it's to a new town or to another state across country, a 40 minute or 5 hour drive away...it's all the same, moving is sad.
You will miss your friend, I know.
Just be sure to keep in touch and not let the distance change your relationship.
