The First Snow

© shoutingforha

The weather over the past two days has been miserable. It has rained non-stop for nearly 48 hours with temperatures barely reaching 40 degrees. Bone chilling is the only way to describe it.

Everything within me has been screaming for the temperatures to drop low enough for the rain to change into snow. Well, tonight I finally got my wish.

The boy, who loves the white stuff just as much as I do, was the first one to notice. "Mom! It looks like we're in for a little snow," he called. He immediately put on his coat, hat and gloves and ran outside. His screams of joy could be heard throughout the neighborhood.

After getting sufficiently soaked, the boy came inside and immediately sent up a few prayers that school will be canceled tomorrow. By his own estimation there is either a 56% or 74% chance that he will get his wish. It depends on when you ask him.

I have to admit that my hopes aren't quite as high as the boy's. The snow is so slushy that our plans for building a snowman will probably vanish by morning. Our only chance is that powers that be find the winding country roads impassible when they are out for their 3 a.m. drive.

We can always dream.
