We went to the Bone & Joint Clinic this afternoon to meet with the infamous Dr. W. He has quite a reputation around town and has been hailed as "the best hand guy in the region." Our expectations were high.
Dr. W. is also easy on the eyes, if you know what I mean. After meeting him, the hubby whispered to me, "So not only is this guy a world-class surgeon, but he is also ridiculously handsome." Well said.
After three quick x-rays of the boy's finger, Dr. W. came in to examine the injury for himself. Within minutes he confirmed our suspicions. The tendon in the boy's ring finger was indeed severed. He would need surgery to repair it.
Surgery has been scheduled for Monday morning. Dr. W. will be opening the boy's finger and reattaching the tendon with a few stitches. He will also insert a pin in his finger to render it immobile for six weeks. Once the tendon has healed, the pin will be removed.
The hubby and I were delighted with Dr. W.'s diagnosis and his determination that the boy's finger can be repaired. The boy, on the other hand, is thrilled that he gets to miss school on Monday and extend Christmas vacation at least one more day.
On the way home, the boy informed me that he would have to tell his teacher that he would be unable to write for six weeks. Imagine his disappointment when I reminded him that he is a lefty and the injured finger is on his right hand.
Nice try.
