The hubby and I have big plans for tonight. No, we are not heading out for a night of champagne and parties. We will be staying home with our boy, just like we do every year.
Our family will be enjoying one of our favorite traditions. We began this ritual when the boy was almost three. It is something he looks forward to all year long.
In preparation for the big night, I will be cooking a special meal... usually something that the boys have picked out. The table will be set using our finest linens and dishes.
As we sit down to dinner, the hubby will fill three wine glasses with sparkling cider. We will reminisce about all of the events, good and bad, that have happened during the previous year as we enjoy our meal. Our talk will then turn to our hopes and dreams for the coming year.
After we have eaten our fill, we will lift our glasses and one-by-one make a toast to something that we are thankful for... God, our family, good health, the hubby's job, school, friends, the beast, our home... Our toasts usually continue for at least 30 minutes. We have so much to be thankful for.
Over the years, we have been able to share this tradition with friends who have joined us to ring in the new year. What a treat that has been.
I hope that as you survey the past year, you too have many things to be thankful for. Happy New Year!
