Summer Vacation and a Party

Yesterday was the boy's last day of second grade and he is now officially on summer vacation. It is hard to tell who is more excited about the break, the boy or me.
No schedule... days spent at the pool... the possibility of sleeping late... Needless to say, I am thrilled.

To kick things off, we decided to have the boy's birthday party yesterday afternoon. Yes, his birthday was in March. And yes, I realize it is now the month of May. I guess that blows my chances of winning the coveted Mother of the Year trophy.
As I've mentioned before, things have been a little hectic around here. We had company in town for the boy's birthday, followed quickly by a miserable bout with a virus, Easter and spring break. At that point, it was mid April and many of the boy's friends were tied up in endless practices, games and tournaments for various sports.

The hubby and I decided it would be better to hold off on the party until things slowed down a little bit. What fun would a birthday party be if the boy's friends couldn't attend?

Yesterday proved to be the perfect day.

After much deliberation, the boy decided to have a party at the local bowling alley. Ten of his friends joined us for bowling, pizza, cake and arcade games. I think they had a great time.

The boy ended up with some really cool gifts. I think his favorites are some new water guns, which will be a perfect way to beat the summer heat. He also got a stack of gift cards which he used to buy a new Razor scooter and helmet, with a little cash to spare.
I think I may need to invest in a good pair of goggles. In my experience, water and contacts don't mix too well. Although, upon further consideration, a new sprayer nozzel for the hose might be better. Who needs eye protection, when you can simply douse your opponent.
