Things Are a Little Hectic Around Here

Things have been very busy here at the Ha house. I, like the boy, am overjoyed at the thought of summer vacation. No more rushing around, having to rise early, helping with endless homework, or constant volunteering. We will be able to do whatever we want, whenever we want. I cannot wait.

In case you were wondering, we are a mere 13 school days (including today) away from this joyous event... not that I am counting.

The end of the year seems to be especially busy. I think the schools purposefully cram in as many activities as possible during the last few weeks so that we parents feel like the year was a jam-packed success. I see through their evil plan.

Here is a snapshot of my week:

Monday: My only day at home this week. I cleaned my house from top to bottom, went to the grocery store, ran several other errands and dropped off a car load of junk at my local Goodwill. Once the boy came home, I helped him research Abraham Lincoln on the internet for a huge report that is due on Monday, gave him a practice spelling test, enjoyed two Nerf gun battles, cooked dinner, watched a little T.V., and read three chapters of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH while he was snuggled in bed. Then the fun really began. I folded a load of laundry, did the dishes, responded to a zillion emails and fell asleep on the sofa with a half-full cup of Chai in my hands and my MacBook in my lap.

Tuesday: I have made the beds, run a load of laundry, washed some dishes, vacuumed again (the Beast is shedding like crazy), and replied to another zillion emails. In an hour I will head up to the school to volunteer in the office for a few hours (I do this every-other Tuesday). When I get home I will cook dinner for my boy's teacher (it's Teacher Appreciation Week) and have it up to the school by the end of the day. My afternoon and evening will probably look similar to yesterday.

Wednesday: In addition to the normal house stuff, I will bake some kind of dessert and take it up to school for the Teacher Appreciation luncheon and then stick around to help serve the food. I also get to help clean up the mess because cleaning up after my own family isn't quite enough. Once I am finished I will take the boy straight from school to his drum lesson followed by the usually afternoon/evening routine.

Thursday: I am going on an all day field trip to Traveler's Rest with my boy's class. The field trip was originally scheduled for last Friday but was postponed due to rain. Thankfully, Thursday's forecast is only calling for a 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms. I need to track down my umbrella. Once we return to the school I will make 120 copies of my PTA Minutes and distribute them to all the teachers/staff. I will also do a load of laundry, vacuum again and do a quick tidy of the house before cooking a delicious meal for my guys.

Friday: In addition to my normal cleaning, I will rise early and cook some type of breakfast food to take to my final PTA meeting. I'm leaning towards spinach and bacon quiche. After two years on the PTA Board, my tenure is finally up. I will hand off all my duties to the newly elected Recording Secretary. Yee haw! I will also stick around and help count the final batch of money that came in during the annual School Supply Sale. During all my spare time, I will do the normal cleaning/laundry/vacuuming. It never ends.

I am off now to take a quick shower before I have to head up to the school. At least I will look presentable while I am running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

How about you? Is your schedule as crazy as mine?
