I was talking with the boy as we drove home from his drum lesson this afternoon. After getting a complete blow-by-blow account of his day, his talk turned more serious. On his mind this afternoon was the complex question, "Why are girls so weird?"
His thoughts on this topic...
"Did you ever notice how girls act so goofy? One minute they are friends. The next minute they say they never want to talk to their friend again. They stomp off and start crying. Then they change their mind and start playing together. It's crazy! Girls are WEIRD!"
As a girl myself, I am sad to admit that the boy is correct. Girls are extremely complicated creatures. At the tender age of eight, my son has already given up on trying to understand these schoolgirls.
It is one of the many reasons that I am delighted to have a son. Don't get me wrong, girls are great. I have two nieces and many friends with wonderful daughters that I adore.
But in my mind, there is just something special about boys.

I'm glad I have both---girls and boy--but, I have to admit, I find the girls easier, as I, myself am a girl too. Yes, yes, there are HUGE dramatic scenes all the time in our family (3 girls and only 1 boy will do that), but, then they blow over quickly and I'm able to follow their mind pattern. But, the boy, probably like his father, I, most of the time, just don't get...it is what it is with them...but, WHY? I probably am MUCH more dramatic than you, which is why I relate to my girls so well. Is life always rocky with them? Yes. But, I can honestly say...life is not dull with 3 girls (and two of them teenagers!)! Probably, you will have SUCH an easy time with a teenage boy! But, my life has a lot of dramatic times in it. LOL! Makes for great stories to tell you! Aren't you green with envy...hee hee!
I almost cried when I found out I was having a boy. I had my heart set on a girl. And when I see all the darling clothes for little girls, I will admit I get a little wistful. But 99.99% of the time? Dang! I love having a funny little boy. He's my little boyfriend.
Some of the moms of girls at Sean's schools are saying the mean girls thing is already starting. Won't be sorry to miss out on that.
