The hubby and I have lived in Nashvegas for almost fifteen years. During that time, we have tried to be intentional about exploring all that the area has to offer.
In addition to all of the landmarks that we have visited, we have enjoyed meals at the majority of Nashville's famed restaurants. What could be better than eating biscuits and preserves at the Loveless Cafe, a cheeseburger on French bread at Rotier's, or breakfast at the Pancake Pantry? I could go on.
Even after all of our scrumptious adventures, there was still one place that had managed to stay off our radar... Prince's Hot Chicken Shack.
Prince's legendary reputation comes from their hot-as-fire fried chicken. Patrons can choose one of five heat levels: plain, mild, medium, hot and extra hot. Let me tell you, this chicken is not for the faint of heart.
Check out this short film that explains how Prince's got it's start. It contains interviews with the owner and some of the regular patrons.
The hubby had his first taste of Prince's Hot Chicken a few weeks ago. He loves spicy food and decided that medium heat would be a good place to start. Boy was he ever wrong.
According to the hubby, Prince's makes the best fried chicken that he has ever eaten. The meat is incredibly juicy and the breading is crisp and flavorful. That said, the chicken is also the spiciest food that has ever crossed his lips.
Let's just say that after enjoying his meal, the hubby's colon has never been cleaner. But like they say in the video, "Once you get off the toilet, you want more."
On Saturday, the hubby decided that it was time for the boy and I to experience Prince's Hot Chicken for ourselves. We called some friends and made our way to the north Nashville establishment.
After the hubby's last visit, he decided to downgrade the heat level and ordered mild chicken. I followed suit. We also asked for an order of plain chicken for the boy.
It only took one bit of my chicken for me to realize that I was in over my head. The fire that ignited in my mouth was like nothing I had ever experienced before. My eyes started watering and beads of sweat started to form on my brow. I ended up having to peel off all the breading and eat just the meat, which was still plenty hot.
On my next visit to Prince's, I am going to stick with their plain chicken. It packs a mild punch, but is one that won't knock me out.
