As most of you know, my boy is an only child. It is not what the hubby and I had originally planned, but it is the reality nonetheless. That said, I can honestly tell you that we are completely satisfied and happy with our family.
How could I feel any regret when we have been blessed with such an amazing son?
We are fortunate to have some dear friends that live over the back fence. When I was pregnant with the boy, their three young daughters prayed that I would give birth to a "brother." Obviously, I didn't disappoint.
Over the past eight years, our friends have loved our boy and treated him like one of their own. I hope they would say the same thing about us.
Despite being an only child, the boy hasn't grown up alone. Not with three older "sisters" living next door.
The boy and the youngest of the neighbor girls, Z., have been spending tons of time together over the past week. They have gone fishing and ice skating, ran around in the blazing summer heat, watched movies and spent countless hours playing with Star Wars action figures, matchbox cars and a bucket of plastic animals.
I love listening to all of their crazy banter. It is clear that they genuinely enjoy playing together. As the boy put it...
"You know what Mom? Playing with Z. is like having a sister, only better because we don't have to fight. It's the best!"I had to agree. Siblings that don't ever fight... That sounds perfect to me.

That makes me happy. I think my girls have had a better life for having a brother. It is nice to have a little testosterone thrown into the mix now and then. I'm glad you guys are part of our family. (:
