A Little More Turkey, A Little Less Trot

© shoutingforha

My boy ran in the second annual elementary school Turkey Trot yesterday. He has been looking forward to the 5K since last year's event. I, of course, reprised my role as the obnoxious photographer.

In typical fashion, my boy sprinted for the first two-thirds of the race. He would zip past at such a quick speed that I had a hard time getting any decent pictures. How the child can maintain that break-neck pace for such an extended period of time is beyond me.

After he was sufficiently exhausted, the boy decided to abandon his "trot" in exchange for a walk. Joining him on his leisurely stroll were one of his good buddies and two little girls from their class. The spent the remainder of the race giggling, talking and being incredibly friendly with each other.

All I can say is thank the Lord they weren't holding hands.

The Turkey Trot marks the end of track club until after the holidays. The boy is a little bummed out and keeps asking if I would like to continue to get up early to go run with him. While I love the idea of spending time with my boy and getting some exercise at the same time, I am having a hard time squashing my desire for an extra hour of sleep.

I guess I can always just sleep when I'm dead.

I love that photo of your boy zipping past. It captures the essence of childhood - zipping past in a blur.
