New Year's Ramblings

Sorry for my spotty posting over the past few weeks. After all of the Christmas festivities, and the snotty nose that followed, I have been struggling to get back into some sort-of routine. It is alarming how easily I fall into a schedule-free, do whatever we want kind-of mindset.

The alarm Monday morning brought a cold dose of reality. Oh, how I wish elementary school started at 10:00.

Speaking of cold... it has been quite chilly here in Nashvegas. Temperatures have been in the 20's for most of the week, and rumor has it that we may get up to an inch-and-a-half of snow tomorrow. As I speak, all of the milk, eggs and bread are being snatched from the grocery store shelves across Middle Tennessee.

Apparently nothing brings out a craving for French toast like a little white stuff.

The school district here in our county has taken a proactive approach to this pending weather event. School has already been canceled for tomorrow. As we speak, the boy is drifting off to sleep, dreaming of sledding and snowmen. I, on the other hand, have taken this opportunity to throw all that pesky routine business out the window.

More vacation anyone?

On a more serious note, the start of a new year always causes me to do a little soul searching. To be honest, I am not one to make a bunch of New Year's resolutions. That said, here are a few, or seven, of my goals for 2010.

1) Be even more deliberate about spending quality time with my guys. The years are flying by so quickly... I want to make sure I take advantage of each and every moment.

2) Learn to bake amazing bread. I am already fairly knowledgeable about the whole bread baking process but want to step it up a notch. The hubby bought me a great book for Christmas, which should help.

3) Become more adept at canning. Just call me June Cleaver.

4) Finally learn how to use all the settings on my camera.

5) Fine tune my knitting skills. I have mastered the purl stitch, but for some reason the knit stitch still alludes me.

6) Ride my bike. I fairly certain that my cute new cruiser has something to do with my deep desire to pedal all over town. Now if the temperature would just get above freezing...

7) Maintain my height advantage over the boy through all of 2010. At the rate he is growing, I'm not entirely sure this is possible.

As I look back over some of my goals, it is hard to determine if they were written by me or an eighty-year-old woman. Next thing you know, I'll be taking up square dancing and looking for a more efficient way to clean my dentures. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

How about you? What are some of your goals for the new year?
