My longtime readers will know that the boy is a drummer, and a darn good one at that. Living in the Nashville area has many benefits. Things like access to great musical gear at a reasonable price, excellent instructors and countless opportunities to attend various summer music camps.
Here's the only catch... to participate in the programs that are appropriate for the boy's skill level, you have to be in middle school. My boy is only nine and in the third grade. Camps geared towards elementary school children require little to no musical experience. It has been quite frustrating.
When I first heard about The Jam Summer Music Camp, I lamented to the hubby that I wished the boy was older. I bookmarked the link and filed it away in my mind under the "Things to Look Into in a Few Years" category.
The hubby, on the other hand, took things into his own hands. He emailed the director of the camp and asked if they ever make an exception to the age limit. Her response was that it rarely happens, but if he would send a few samples of the boy's playing, she would make a decision.
I have to admit that neither the hubby or I were too hopeful.
Well, we received an email on Sunday afternoon letting us know the good news. Our boy will be the first nine-year-old to ever attend the camp. Apparently the director was impressed by what she heard.
Needless to say, the boy is really excited. So are his parents. We can't wait for July.
