New Glasses

© shoutingforha

You longtime readers may recall that my boy got his first pair of glasses last year. The momentous occasion has provided the hubby with ample opportunity to heckle me about the faulty genes that I have passed on to our redheaded offspring. He's mean like that.

While the boy still loves the black Converse frames that he originally selected, he has been asking for another pair to add to his "collection." I'm not quite sure how his lone pair of specks qualified as a collection, but that's beside the point. Maybe he aspires to be like Elton John and have a different pair of glasses to wear with every outfit.

Two weeks ago, the boy came home from school with a couple of deep gouges in his lenses. The scratches were so severe that I decided to schedule his annual exam a little early. His appointment was last Thursday.

According to the doctor, the boy's vision had deteriorated a tiny bit over the last twelve months. His prescription, which had to be increased from -0.75 to -1.0, is still so weak that I can wear his glasses and my contacts at the same time without noticing much of a difference. I guess I should be thankful that his lenses don't look like the bottom of a Coke bottle.

The boy, of course, was thrilled for an excuse to buy that coveted second pair of spectacles and insisted that we begin the search immediately. To tell you the truth, I was not looking forward to the great glasses hunt of 2010. I was still worn out from the torture-like search of 2009. The boy loves shopping just as much as I do and, as a result, likes to make the task as miserable of an experience as possible.

To my surprise and delight, the boy fell in love with the very first pair that he tried on... a great pair of frames made by Ray Ban. They are a brown tortoise shell on the outside and a funky green on the inside. I love the way they bring out his eyes.

The boy's old pair of glasses is being outfitted with new lenses as we speak. He can't wait to be able to alternate frames depending on his mood. He looks so cute in both pairs, I can't decide which one I like better.

So glad this search was quick and easy. Bet he looks cute in the new ones.

As a glasses wearer myself, I agree. You need lots of glasses in your collection so that you can wear the ones that suit your mood or match your outfit. I'm up to 5 pairs myself :) I think of them as an accessory - kind of like jewelry.
