This is the second in a two-part interview I did with my boy. In case you missed it, you can read part 1 here.
Let's continue the countdown to number one with...
5. Dominic Howard (Muse)
Thoughts: He plays really simple beats but his time is always perfect. I think he creates really interesting drum parts.
Favorite Song: "Hysteria"
4. Animal (The Muppets)
Thoughts: Animal is the best, even though he's a Muppet. I like how he plays with all his heart and that he's kind-of dangerous when he drums.
Favorite Song: "Bohemian Rapsody"
3. Darren King (Mute Math)
Thoughts: He can play anything. His playing is really unique and doesn't sound like anyone else. I got to meet him when we were visiting NYC. He took the time to meet me even though he was about to play on David Letterman. I thought he was really nice.
Favorite Song: "Chaos"
2. Larry Mullen, Jr. (U2)
Thoughts: He is the drummer for my favorite band and so I love everything he does. I really like how he is part of a true band.
Favorite Song: "Bullet the Blue Sky"
1. Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Kelly Clarkson, Shakira, BB King...)
Thoughts: He is the first drummer that I ever liked. My dad was watching the Paul McCartney, Back in the USA DVD and when they played "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" I was hooked. He's the one that inspired me to start playing drums. He's also an amazing singer.
I got to see him play when Paul McCartney came to Nashville. We knew one of the sound engineers and during the show he brought me a stick that Abe broke while playing Jet. It's one of my favorite possessions.
Favorite Song: Obviously, "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
I hope you've had as much fun hearing about my boy's drumming idols as I had interviewing him.
